Wall Fountains - Indoor Water Features For Home Decorating

!±8± Wall Fountains - Indoor Water Features For Home Decorating

If you live in a part of the world where it is not always warm year round then you don't always get a chance to enjoy your yard or garden. You may have spent hours and hours gardening or decorating your yard and patio only to enjoy it 6 months of the year. One piece of garden decor that you can't enjoy in these circumstances is a garden or outdoor water fountain. You might have a small indoor tabletop water fountain but it doesn't offer the same peace and tranquility as a large outdoor fountain. Well there is a solution. Wall mounted water fountains can provide you the same soothing sound and beauty of an outdoor water feature during those times when you can't enjoy the outdoors.

SHAPES AND SIZES OF WALL FOUNTAINS

There are many different shapes and sizes when it comes to wall fountains. The first thing you will want to do before shopping for a wall fountain is to figure out where you want to put it. These fountains go great in entryways, living rooms, dens, lobbies, waiting rooms, and bedrooms. Anywhere you could hang wall art is a great place for a fountain. Once you find out where you want to put it next determine how much space you have. There are many different shapes and sizes so you want to find out which will work best for your space. Most of the wall fountains are vertical and rectangular in shape although there are some that are more horizontal.

STYLE AND DESIGN OF WALL FOUNTAINS

These fountains have a wide variety of designs to fit any style. Whether you are looking for a contemporary modern fountain or a traditional classic fountain you will be able to find what you need. Most of these fountains use slate or marble as their surface but you can also get a mirrored glass surface. There are three different types of slate which are Rajah (multi-color), Green, and Black slate. The Rajah is the most popular and has more of a reddish look to it. The marble options are Green, Brown and Black marble. These surfaces are combined with a top panel and lower panel made of either stainless steel or a bronze copper. These panels can also be rounded or squared at the corners. With so many options you can mix and max to create the look and feel you want to use for your interior decor.

HOW THEY WORK

These wall fountains are simply mounted with an easy to install bracket system that will attach to almost any wall. They will go into drywall with metal or wood studs, cinderblock, plywood and cement. If you get a stone fountain you may need some help lifting them onto the bracket on the wall as they can be quite heavy since they are natural stone. The bottom tray holds the water and the quiet submersible pump and a hose runs along the back of the fountain distributing the water over the stone surface at the top. There are also lights and an on and off switch in the top panel. These fountains simply plug into any normal wall socket and once installed are ready to go!

These fountains do require a little maintenance like adding water every so often and an occasional cleaning. Adding one of these beautiful wall fountains to your home or office will provide a relaxing bit of art to your living space and will be the focus of a lot of attention as they are quite popular. Please feel free to read other articles which go into depth on indoor water fountains to gain more info before you make any purchases.

LEGO 2010 Review - Disney Pixar Cars Duplo Sets For Young Imaginations

!±8± LEGO 2010 Review - Disney Pixar Cars Duplo Sets For Young Imaginations

If ever there was a film guaranteed to catch the imagination of young boys the world over, it was Pixar Animation Studio's 2005 release, Cars. With Hot Wheels a undisputed champion in the kids toy market for decades and a boy's love for all things fast and furious, the success of both the animated film and its licensed toy offspring was no surprise.

With Lego and Pixar signing a deal to allow the popular building toys company to produce sets based around popular Pixar characters and scenes, Cars was also a shoe-in for first cab off the rank when it came to the inaugural wave of Pixar Lego sets in early 2010. Interestingly Mega Bloks, Lego's main competitor in the toy building bricks market, had released sets based on Cars some years earlier but fans failed to respond with enthusiasm. With the recent restructuring at Pixar/Disney the animation company decided to shift their attention to Lego and the new Cars Duplo sets are a result.

If you are unfamiliar with Duplo, it is like Lego but only bigger and meant for smaller hands. This may seem incongruous but the larger pieces make assembling and disassembling structures easier, and that is the special element of Lego. It allows children to not only construct a model using instructions but then also gives them options to create their own designs using those same Lego pieces. The general age recommendation for the juniorized Duplo Lego is two to six years of age.

Lego released four Duplo Cars sets and each have at least one of the car characters from the film. The smallest set thankfully includes the most famous of these, Lightning McQueen. Called simply Lightning McQueen, set 5813 contains 11 pieces and includes the titular car, a chequered flag, a cactus and various bricks to construct a desert feature.

The next largest set, at 16 pieces is Mater's Yard, set 5814. Obviously this set features the world's favourite Tow Truck but also Sherrif, an oil barrel and salvage yard sign as well as a few bricks for creating structures. Like all the characters in this Duplo Cars range, the designs are simple but instantly recognisable and customisable. In this case Mater's tow cable can be removed from the truck bed and used as a crane.

With 32 pieces, Flo's V8 Cafe is the next largest set and doesn't actually contain Flo but Sally, Lightning McQueen (with special white walled wheels) and Doc Hudson. The rest of the set consists of a fuel pump, Flo's cafe sign and blocks for general construction. The final set includes 34 pieces but is quite a bit larger, having Mack the, Sheriff and Lightning with road signs and a cactus.

All the sets will be loved by young fans and the wonderful thing about Duplo is that kids can use generic blocks they already have from other sets to create just about anything their imagination can think of. Although the price point may be slightly higher than other toys, this long term versatility needs to be factored into any parent's purchase consideration. Ka Chow indeed!

Fountains of Refreshment

!±8± Fountains of Refreshment

When hot, sticky days hit, try to use all your senses to keep cool. Sight and sound have amazing psychological effects, even when the thermometer soars.

One of the most cooling and relaxing sounds I know is that of a trickling spring. It relaxes my mind and helps my body unwind. In the city, it can drown out the sounds of the daily hustle and bustle of life, calming and refreshing the spirit. I also love the glinting, reflective surface of water. You can have the soothing coolness of water without a huge space so why not recreate this in your outdoor living area?

Some small water features have still water and aquatic plants but with the fight to remove stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed, many people now prefer items with moving water.

The most popular "moving water" items are tabletop fountains, statuary fountains and spitting creatures. All rely on a pump to circulate water through the feature. The water is pumped up through plastic tubing and released into the fountain, returning to the bottom where it is pumped up the tubing again. Most pumps run on an electrical connection but some smaller tabletop fountains have batteries. There are also solar units available that require no electrical hook-up.

Simple or elaborate, all fountain features have the following elements:

a "bottom" where the pump where will be located and the water returns. This can be a large pot, an urn, a trough and so on. a "top" from which the water will emerge. This can be a small pot, a fanciful creature such as a frog, a conch shell, etc. a "middle" - the water course which will receive the water from the top and return it to the bottom. This can be pots, pebbles, shells, marbles, or even empty space, creating a freefall. a pump. Give crucial attention to two features of the pump: maximum gallons per hour (gph) and maximum lift.

The gph can vary from 35 gph for a small battery-operated tabletop unit to over 600 gph for large garden fountains. Choose one appropriate to the size of your water feature - more is not necessarily better. A low gph will give you a gurgling effect in the same fountain that a higher gph pump would provide a steady stream - or even splash. It's strictly a personal preference within the range recommended for the fountain size.

The maximum lift figure tells you how high you can expect your "little pump that could" to push the water. A small pump that has a lift of "up to 2 feet", for example would not be appropriate for your 3-foot wall mounted lion's head.

You will also want to consider the length of the electrical cord if applicable, and whether the unit has an on/off switch, if that's important to you. Remember, though, that water left sitting will stagnate.

If you are making your own fountain, the pump is the most important part. Pump kits are available that include pump and tubing but tubing is quite inexpensive (about 60¢ per foot) and can be purchased at most garden centers.

You can make a fountain from something as simple as terracotta pots and pebbles. For instructions, visit [http://www.paradiseporch.com/fountain.php]

So soothe your senses with the calming sounds of moving water and keep cool in your outdoor space!
